Virtual Learning

In an effort to give families choices in how their students are educated, the Roane County Board of Education on Thursday, August 12, approved a new virtual school platform through the Southern Educational Services Cooperative.

Based in Beckley, WV, the Southern ESC offers a virtual school option to counties throughout southern and central West Virginia through Proximity Learning, a leader in online K-12 instruction.

Students enrolled in the Roane County Virtual School will be taught by live, certified teachers in all required subjects as well as electives. Students can follow a "bell schedule" and join their classes live or login later and watch the recording of the lesson.

All students enrolled in the Roane County Virtual School are also students of the schools they would have attended in-person, so they can participate in extracurricular activities and athletics and graduates will receive a Roane County High School diploma.

Students will receive an Apple iPad provided by Roane County Schools and may be eligible for Internet service assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For more information and to enroll, see our online application or print the application form and bring it the Roane County Board of Education offices in Spencer, WV.

Current Roane County Schools students can enroll in the Roane County Virtual School through Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Students must have a 2.0 GPA from the previous school year to be eligible and must apply and be approved before enrolling.
