Canvas Update We are currently experiencing delays in getting our new Canvas platform fully functional. Our team is working diligently to resolve these issues, and we anticipate the platform will be ready by the end of this week. We sincerely apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience. Today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Bus 42 was involved in an accident on Charleston Road. A small SUV rear-ended the bus while the bus was stopped and preparing to unload students. Emergency responders and school officials arrived promptly on the scene to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and the driver.
All students were immediately assessed by emergency personnel. At this time, no serious injuries have been reported. As a precaution, three students are being transported to Roane General Hospital for further assessment. Students who ride bus 42 will be arriving later than normal, as the substitute bus has now departed the scene to get students to their homes.
The safety of our students is always our highest priority. Roane County Schools is cooperating fully with local law enforcement and emergency responders as they review the incident.
We want to thank the first responders, school staff, and transportation personnel for their swift action and care in today’s situation.
For any questions or further information, parents may contact the Roane County Schools central office.

🌞 RCS Summer SOAR: Final Week Highlights! 🌿

We wrapped things up in the best way possible during our final week of Summer SOAR! Our week ended with a healthy eating lesson at Spencer City Park, thanks to our partners from WVU Extension, Brandy Brabham and Kellie Rose. Students even planted their own herb gardens to take home!

We enjoyed a mindfulness scavenger hunt on Ben’s Run Trail, where we spotted a couple snakes 🐍, animal tracks, feathers🪶 , flowers 🌼, spider webs 🕸️, and so much more! All while taking a healthy hike and practicing mindfulness as a SOAR family.

☀️ 🏊‍♀️ Tuesday brought fun in the sun at the Spencer City Pool, although Thursday’s visit was rained out ⛈️ .

🧺 Indoors, the fun continued! A special highlight was working with Ms. Shrekengost and Ms. Beard to create our very own handmade baskets to take home as a reminder of the unique experiences we had during Summer SOAR. This was a challenging activity, but a student favorite by far.

📖✏️ Academically, we stayed engaged with iReady, real-world math lessons like measuring our ingredients for snack bags and money-counting 💵, and a science activity on absorbency at the pool. 🧽

✍️ 🖼️ Students illustrated and wrote about their favorite part of Summer SOAR as another academically engaging activity!

🧘‍♀️ We also completed our mindfulness books, adding additional illustrations, writing inserts, and thoughtful reflections.

😮‍💨 Students learned about a variety of breathing strategies, how to solve problems, resolve conflicts appropriately, and the importance of building healthy friendships and relationships.

🍨 I almost forgot we celebrated an amazing summer with ice cream sundaes and homemade pepperoni rolls, courtesy of our incredible SOAR cook, Melissa Strickland! 🧑‍🍳 🥖

It was truly the best last week EVER — and an unforgettable summer. 🥰

THANK YOU to everyone who made it special! 💛

Thank you to the parents for allowing us to spend the summer with your kids — they are great! 💛
