On November 17, Roane County Schools was honored to host a critical Round Table Discussion and Work Session focused on strengthening the West Virginia State Aid Funding Formula.
We brought together a diverse and dedicated group, including superintendents, WV legislators, county leaders, and community members to collaborate on actionable strategies for more equitable and effective school funding across our state.
Thank you to all the stakeholders for their invaluable insight and commitment to ensuring every WV student has access to the resources they deserve. The conversation on supporting our rural schools and communities continues!

Today, Superintendent Michelle Stellato had the pleasure of hosting fellow superintendents from neighboring counties for a meeting. The group took a moment to enjoy lunch at the Black Walnut Festival.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and connect with educational leaders from across the region!

Today we honor the incredible individuals who keep our schools running and support the success of every student. From the bus drivers who greet our kids each morning, to the cooks who prepare meals, the custodians and maintenance staff who keep our buildings safe, the aides who give extra care, and the secretaries who keep everything organized—your work is essential, and it makes a difference every single day.
We understand how important it is for students, families, and teachers to have reliable access, and we know this disruption has been frustrating. Thank you for your patience!
All students were immediately assessed by emergency personnel. At this time, no serious injuries have been reported. As a precaution, three students are being transported to Roane General Hospital for further assessment. Students who ride bus 42 will be arriving later than normal, as the substitute bus has now departed the scene to get students to their homes.
The safety of our students is always our highest priority. Roane County Schools is cooperating fully with local law enforcement and emergency responders as they review the incident.
We want to thank the first responders, school staff, and transportation personnel for their swift action and care in today’s situation.

Roane County Schools is pleased to announce the award of a 21st Century Community Learning grant by the West Virginia Department of Education. Our award will provide 250,000 per year for the next five years - a total of $1.25 million - to provide summer and after-school learning opportunities for our students and families.
The mission of our SOAR program is to help young learners Set goals, Overcome obstacles, Act with purpose, and Rise to success. This program represents a strategic investment in our youngest learners that will yield long-term benefits for Roane County Schools and our community.
This grant ensures that students across Roane County have access to safe, engaging, and supportive learning opportunities beyond the traditional school day through a comprehensive extended-day and summer program for K–3 students.
