Roane County Schools is investigating an incident that occurred this morning (2.25.26) involving a second grade student who discharged a pepper spray container while riding a school bus en route to school. Upon arrival at the school, our nursing staff immediately met the bus and began assessing students. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to assist. All students on the bus were evaluated and treated as needed at the school. We are thankful to report that no students required transport to the hospital. Some students were picked up by their parents as a precaution. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. We take this matter very seriously. Law enforcement has been notified and is involved in reviewing the incident. The situation will be handled in accordance with district policy and applicable laws. We appreciate the quick response of our school nurse, staff, and local emergency responders. We also thank our families for their patience and cooperation. Roane County Schools remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students.

Good morning, Spencer Elementary, families and staff. We want to make you aware that there is an ambulance on its way to Spencer Elementary School. There is no emergency at the school. There was an incident this morning on a bus. The students involved in the incident require medical attention. The parents of the children involved are being contacted All other students and staff are safe. When appropriate time allows, we will provide an update. Again, all students and staff are safe.

Roane County Schools will utilize a Non-Traditional Instructional Day on Monday, Feb 23, 2026. School personnel will report to their work locations on a two-hour delay. Elementary students should complete their assignments using Instructional Packet #2. Secondary students should log in to the Canvas Learning Management System. School personnel will be available at your child's school beginning at 11:00 a.m. to assist with any questions and to provide support services.
