Recently, Mrs. Ward's Kindergarten class held Family Time Line Night at Spencer Elementary! Each student created a personal timeline with their families and then showcased them to their peers. Title I and RCS Family Engagement staff provided information about their programs and demonstrated a read aloud to all the participants. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening's activities!

SES Parents- This week our school launched our winter One School, One Book event. This means our entire school is reading the same book at the same time! We hope this helps to create memorable reading experiences across our school community. Every family received a copy of the book and is encouraged to read at home together following the reading schedule provided by your child's teacher. At school, your child's teacher will use resources to enrich students' experiences with the book.
The book chosen for this reading experience is Nuts to You by Lynne Rae Perkins. It is a really good story that will take your family on a journey of a lifetime. Along the way, fun-loving rodents make new friends, discover new communities, and encounter many dangers and disasters, one of which is threatening their family and friends back home. Will they be able to warn their loved ones of this impending disaster and successfully get them to safety?

Spencer Elementary Families- PATCH classes for today, Wednesday January 12 have been cancelled. All students will be sent home on their regular bus. Again, all PATCH classes for this evening have been cancelled.
Spencer Elementary Parents,
Second quarter report cards are coming home today, Monday, January 10. Please check your student's backpack or folder for their report card. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher.
Remember - there will be no school this Thursday, November 11, as we honor those who have served in our nation's armed forces on Veterans Day.

COVID-19 UPDATE - ROANE IN RED
Today, Roane County moved to "red" on the WV DHHR daily COVID-19 map for the first time ever. 35 new cases were confirmed in the past 7 days.
Data continues to show most cases in the 25 and older population, but some younger have tested positive as well. With students returned to school just this past Wednesday, these cases represent spread outside of schools.
Remember the CDC's nine strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly those that are personal responsibilities:
- Get vaccinated if you are eligible
- Wear a mask especially when physical distancing cannot be maintained
- Keep three to six feet away from one another when in public
- Practice good hand washing and sneeze / cough etiquette
- Stay home when sick
- Get tested if you experience any symptoms of COVID-19
Roane County Schools continues to address the three remaining strategies in our schools through improved ventilation systems, contact tracing and quarantine protocols, and cleaning and disinfection.
These strategies can be practiced throughout the community to help keep us all safe and keep our kids in school.

Signups for the Roane County Virtual School continue through Wed, August 25. For more info, see our website.
